Oscar Peterson

While we all remember Oscar Peterson for his incredible artistry, it is also worth remembering that he was a wonderfully compelling television personality. There are a couple of interviews that I’d like to share.

I’ve shared this before, but one of the greatest interviews between two musicians ever taped was made by the BBC in 1974 between André Previn and Oscar Peterson.

In 1980, the BBC produced an incredible show called, Words and Music, in which Peterson was the host. His two guests were Count Basie and Joe Pass.

In just seven minutes, Peterson breaks down the various styles of jazz and jazz pianists during a Dick Cavett interview in 1979.

In 1992, a revealing and intimate CBC documentary was produced called, In The Key Of Oscar.
